The HVAC&R technician installs, maintains and repairs climate-control devices including air conditioners, furnaces, refrigerators and freezer units.
The apprenticeship is composed of a five year training program with hands-on work experience and classroom based training. The program consists of 1800 hours per year of on-the-job training, which is supervised by a certified journeyman. Apprentices must attend three night classes per week, with a traditional summer break, to study science, theory and practical application of the trade.
Upon completion of the five year training period and night classes, apprentices will receive a journey level status and completion certificate.
Starting wage is 55% of journeyman rate
In order to qualify for our apprenticeship program you must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record. Apprentices must be able to handle all physical efforts that the job entails including lifting, climbing, crouching, crawling, etc. Jobs can take place both indoors and outdoors so it’s essential that you’re prepared to handle any situation and terrain.
Apprentices will be supervised by a qualified journeyman at all times to ensure the job is safely and securely executed.
Must be at least 18 years old. Proof of age is required.
Must have a high school diploma or GED. High school transcripts are required.
No physical examination is required. However, applicants must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to fulfill the job without putting themselves or others in danger.
Applicants will be required to pass a drug screen.
Length of Apprenticeship
The apprenticeship program incorporates five years of on-the-job training and night school to fully prepare you for your future career. As an apprentice you will work during the day and attend three night classes per week. Once you successfully complete the program you will receive the journeyman certificate.
